This program provides participants with an understanding of Lean and how it is applied across an organization. The program develops participants to the point where they can start facilitating improvement activities through understanding the Lean concepts, tools and practices. Participants learn how to create value, improve processes and implementing change that are highly transferrable across the organization and internationally.

This Program Is For

Executives, managers and supervisors of one or more process areas, organizational Lean leaders and employees working towards their Green/Black Belt certification.

Assessment and Certification

Participants must complete a multiple choice examination online (50%) and submit of a work-based improvement project (50%).

Introducing Lean Thinking

Level: Beginner Duration: 1 hour

This course identifies and discusses each of the five core goals of Lean Thinking, focusing on the concepts of waste elimination and value creation within organizations. It explains how Lean Thinking can be applied successfully in non-manufacturing businesses or industries, including those in the healthcare sector.

Lean Tools and Practices 1 – Improving Process Flow

Level: Beginner Duration: 1 hour

This course introduces the Lean tools and practices used to improve process flow. Any Lean implementation begins with Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to establish where and how improvements can be made in terms of process flow and overall quality. This module introduces VSM and explains some of the techniques that may emerge as a result of a VSM strategy.

Lean Tools and Practices 2 – Reducing Variation and Improving Quality

Level: Beginner Duration: 1 hour

This course introduces the Lean tools and practices that can be used to reduce variation and improve quality. Any Lean implementation begins with Value Stream mapping (VSM) to establish where and how improvements can be made in terms of process flow and overall quality. These are typically used in conjunction with those covered in module 2. The key functions of each tool are outlined, as well as an overview of how each should be used.

Value Stream Mapping

Level: Beginner Duration: 1 hour

This course focuses on Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and expands on the basic principles outlined in lesson 2. It focuses on how VSM can be applied practically across a process or an enterprise.

Kaizen

Level: Intermediate Duration: 2 hours

This course focuses on Kaizen and expands on the basic principles outlined in module 2. It provides a detailed outline of how to plan, prepare, and implement Kaizen Events. The module outlines the requirements for an efficient Kaizen Event, and the benefits that a successful Kaizen Event can offer the enterprise.

5S

Level: Intermediate Duration: 2 hours

This course focuses on the 5S methodology and expands on the basic principles outlined in course 2. It outlines the benefits associated with an effective 5S program, and it provides a detailed analysis and outline of each of the stages involved in its implementation.

Introducing Lean Sigma

Level: Intermediate Duration: 2 hours

This course explains the main functions of Six Sigma. It explains the role of the Lean Six Sigma integration model, and how it is used to achieve a successful Lean transition.

Managing Change Resistance

Level: Intermediate Duration: 2 hours

The ability to manage and overcome resistance to change is fundamental to any successful Lean implementation. If all those directly and indirectly impacted by a Lean project do not embrace the changes that such a project brings about, then the implementation itself will be doomed to failure, and the sustainable improvements that can be achieved may never be realized. This module outlines and explains appropriate techniques for managing the type of resistance that can occur in any Lean implementation project.

Roadmap to Lean Implementation

Level: Intermediate Duration: 2 hours

This course outlines a basic roadmap for implementing Lean. It provides some important factors that are crucial to implementing a Lean system for a business. The lesson examines the Theory of Constraints and explains what it is used for and how it can be used to help apply Lean to an organization’s existing processes. It also examines the concept of ergonomics and how important ergonomics are to any Lean system. Finally, the lesson explains and analyzes the Right First Time philosophy, and outlines the steps involved in implementing it.
